Travel Tips and Important Information
1. Check on Conditions (Weather and Road) :
At this time of year, the weather can be unpredictable. Even if the weather and roads look okay in your neighborhood, that may not be the case 200 miles away at Grandma's house. Be sure to check the Federal Highway Administration's website for up-to-the-minute traffic information, detours and road construction before you leave. You may also want to check The Weather Channel's website to find out the weather conditions of the interstates and roads you will be traveling on.
2. Debit cards / emergency money:
It’s always comforting to know that you have additional money and debit cards if something out-of-the-ordinary were to happen during your travels. Most European destinations and some Asian and African destinations have ATM machines on the streets, which can be easily accessed. Before departing for your destination, always check with your travel advisor regarding debit and credit cards and currency you’ll need once you arrive at your destination.
3. Books and games:
It’s always nice to take a break from technology with a great paperback novel. Or, if you don’t like to read, Sudoku, crosswords, and word searches are great alternatives!
4.locks:
Carry cable locks to lock your luggage if you’re traveling by train or bus.
5. Navigation and translation features:
Mini paper maps or smart phone navigation apps are handy tools to have while traveling. You also might want to invest in a pocket-sized translator or smart phone translator app.
6. First aid kit and medications:
For headaches, stomachaches, and minor injuries, equip yourself with a portable first aid kit. And always remember to bring your medications including vitamins and dietary supplements.
7. Itinerary and documents:
Itineraries not only outline your activities and accommodations for your trip, but they also feature important addresses, embassy contact information, tax / transportation information, and directions. And don’t forget to bring your passport and a copy of your passport. It’s also important to check with your travel agent to see if there are any other documents you’ll need while traveling, such as a visa.
